Behind the Design: Azure Terrazzo Bath
The Azure Terrazzo Bath was designed around layered color, bold contrast, and creating continuity throughout the overall Arvada Mid-Mod project.
While the final result feels playful and expressive, the design process required thoughtful planning to improve both the functionality and openness of the existing bathroom.
Existing Challenges
One of the biggest challenges in the Azure Terrazzo Bath was the condition and functionality of the existing shower. The shower had not been operable for over a decade, and portions of the surrounding walls and ceiling were no longer safe to remain in place.
The existing layout also made the bathroom feel more enclosed and limited the overall openness of the space. The goal became not only improving functionality, but also creating a bathroom that felt lighter, more intentional, and better connected overall.

Design Approach & Solutions
To open up the bathroom and improve circulation throughout the space, portions of the existing wall and ceiling were removed and replaced with a more open glass shower enclosure paired with a knee wall. This allowed the bathroom to feel significantly larger while still maintaining functionality and privacy within the shower space.
A white field tile created a clean foundation throughout the bathroom, while sections of blue, green, and orange tile introduced intentional moments of color and contrast throughout the space.
The deep blue vanity became an anchor within the design, grounding the overall palette while complementing the layered terrazzo flooring used throughout the space. The terrazzo also helped create continuity between both bathrooms in the overall project.
Additional functional details, including the shower glass configuration, were carefully considered to improve the day-to-day experience and usability of the bathroom.

Final Result
The final result is a bathroom that feels expressive, layered, and highly functional while still remaining grounded and cohesive within the overall architecture of the home.
By balancing bold color moments with thoughtful material continuity and intentional space planning, the Azure Terrazzo Bath became a playful yet timeless part of the Arvada Mid-Mod project.
